Since 1961 Jesus has been followed and celebrated in this place. The name “Shepherd of the Desert” honors and remembers the teacher called Jesus who traveled in a landscape much like ours. Jesus once said of himself, “I am the good shepherd who lays down his life for his sheep (John 10:11).”
